5 Ways Your Restaurant Can Benefit From Using Facebook tabs

The rise of social media has given immense opportunities to business, both small and big. Among the popular social platforms, Facebook brings in the advantage of larger audience, viral effect, exciting features and inexpensive marketing tools for the businesses. Facebook offers restaurants a great way to stay in touch with customers, find new customers and expand their visibility online. Here are 5 benefits your restaurant can derive from Facebook.

  1. Build excitement and awareness through content

Regular posts on your restaurant’s business page can do wonders. The key is to keep informative and valuable content flowing on your page. Try to bring a variety in your posts – like status updates, images and short videos.

Your posts can be of two types – informative content and promotion-based content.

Facebook business page is the right platform to inform your customers and new users about your menu and any new additions to your menu. You can also create excitement by holding contests, sweepstakes and giveaways.

While you may be tempted to post regularly about promotion activities, it may turn fans off. So try to be as informative as possible. Share content which offers value and helps users to engage with the page. A loyal community can be built only if you share content which inspires, educates and connects with the users.

  1. Use Facebook Check – In feature

The Check-in feature in Facebook is highly valuable for your restaurant. When users check in to your restaurant, it raises awareness about your business. Also, the other users can view details regarding the restaurant – for example its location and ratings. Another huge advantage is the Graph Search Results. This shows the results of the check-ins made by your friends.

The Check-In feature can also be used to offer deals. Check-In deals are a kind of incentives which can be given out whenever a user checks in to your restaurant. They vary from individual deal (given to a single person who checks in), friends deal (when a group of people check-in together), loyalty deal (reward customers who have visited your restaurant a certain number of times) and charity deal (donate to charity whenever customers check in).

  1. Utilize the Menu Tab wisely

The Menu tab is a useful tool in your business page. Add a tab and create a menu to highlight what you have to offer.

A great option would be to allow registrations on your page via the tab. Create a tab under the name of “Reservations” and let users reserve their table right away. This improves the user experience drastically as they receive all the information in a single page without having to search through other websites.

You can also include a “menu” tab on your page. This gives your menu items a maximum visibility and gradually helps your customers to visit more often.

All you have to do is promote these tabs on your page and direct the users to these tabs with attractive content.

  1. Take advantage of the Cover Image

Now that there is no 20% text restriction on the cover image, you can use this area wisely. Cover photos are the first thing that a user sees when they check your business page. Use this area to highlight offers, discounts or any interesting happenings at your restaurant.

  1. Interact with customers

Building a strong relationship with your customers on your business page is extremely valuable. Through constant interactions, you can analyze the views and opinions of the customers about your restaurant, menu items and service. Also, use this platform to address customer feedback. Users appreciate when their views are being heard and customer loyalty will be a great goodwill for your restaurant.

In a usual way, while designing the page in tab mode, you might have used a background image. After inserting a background as per your design in tab mode, once if you switch it to the mobile mode to change the components for best mobile view, sometimes you might have noticed that, the background might not fit to the contents. To upload an image you have to add the component into the design space and choose a file to upload. You can upload a picture directly from your computer,  your library and also from your Facebook albums. After uploading an image into the system, if you want to change the way it fits, there are some few options. Once you right click on the image, you can see some options which are relevant to the image component. Those options are listed as follows:

  • Change Picture
  • Fit to content
  • Image Mode
  • Fit within layer
  • No scaling
  • Repeat down and right
  • Repeat right
  • Repeat down

Fit within layer

This mode helps an image to fit within the boundaries. You can select this option by right click-image mode- fit within layer. After choosing the option, you can see the difference right-away by switching the modes in between mobile and tab.

No scaling

As the name suggests, the image retains its original size and does not shrink or expand when you try to do that. Whatever the mode is, the image remains unchanged when we used this option.

Repeat down and right

This option helps the image to repeat in down and right directions in both modes which in turn tries to fill the space in a whole.

Repeat right

This option helps the image to repeat in right direction only in both modes.

Repeat down

This option helps the image to repeat in the bottom direction only in both modes.

Crop Image

This option is very handy , helps to  easily crop an image as per your need. If you reduced the image size from the original ratio, this feature appears.

How to clear facebook share cache

Once in a while you might have noticed when you tried to share a news story from an external link into Facebook and realized that the auto populated data is not what it is to be. To be precise, when you tried to share a link in Facebook, there is no picture preview that is supposed to be and sometimes the description, title are not the same as it is. This is the problem of caching mechanism in Facebook. This article provides some insights and comes up with a solution of how to overcome this issue.

Usually Facebook parses some open graph tags as meta tags in the page. An open graph tag looks like:

<meta property=”og:tag name” content=”tag value”/>

These meta tags uses the values of the tags such as  <og:image> in the share dialog box. If an image with same height and width is not specified, Facebook uses a random image from the shared link as a thumbnail display. So, once you share a page, Facebook caches its content for at most 7 days.

There are two ways to solve this issue. One, by using the Facebook debug tool and the other , by using the Facebook sharer link.

Using debugging tools

  1. Login into your Facebook account and go to https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug
  2. Input the URL you wanted to share on your profile or page wall.
  3. Click the “Fetch new scrape information”.
